History
The Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) was released in Japan in 1985 and soon in America. It came to Europe in 1987 and found the Sega Master System as an enemy on the market. It was sold together with a joypad, power supply und TV-switch-box. The game "Super Mario Bros." was also included.

The NES in its "toaster"-style. In Japan it was released in a different case as the FAMICOM.
The NES was released in Japan as the FAMICOM (FAMIly COMputer), and was produced in a different style. The FAMICOM did not have very great success in the beginning but the US- and European "toaster"-style had great success and a promising future.

The NES can not offer the player high-tech graphics that are displayed by todays systems – which does not mean the games are not fun or worth playing. Possibly its the technical "incapability" of the NES that reduces the games to their essence: gameplay. Here come some technical facts.

The NES does not have first class hardware. It can technically do a little more than the C64 (especially graphics, color and resolution)
